x-tina aguilera - ain't no other man |
] |
i forgot to tell you all this story.
sometime around early spring a cheery, happy bird started hanging around our living room window ledge and would sing cute happy morning tunes to wake us and brighten our days. we decided to name him "chirpy," aka "chirps mcgee".
as the weeks progressed, we noticed chirps coming back and forth from the big tree next to our window to our window ledge, bringing materials to build a nest. we thought, "oh, how cute, he's going to live with us!"
this past sunday as i was trying to find clothes to wear to work, a baby bird came flapping out of a pile of clothes on the floor. freaking out, i woke justin up and with his bird catching skills, we were able to trap the bird into a box and set it free. we let her go outside, but it hopped and flapped its way back into a crack in the basement window. we discovered that our bedroom fireplace that was allegedly bolted shut has an opening. we also concluded that chirpy is a female.
we don't know what happened to "chirpy junior," but hopefully he/she is okay.
on a different note, christina aguilera's "ain't no other man"... song of the year?

after almost 15 years of playing that damn game, i finally did it.
i finally beat nintendo's romance of the three kingdoms and united china once and for all.
despite having perhaps the WORST ending of all time, a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders.

justin and i will be going to chicago from june 28 to july 3 to visit my cousin bing and her scottish husband, jim. i'm so excited because i haven't seen bing and jim in a couple of years, and this will be the first time justin will meet some of my family aside from my brother (and a brief cameo from my parents and little siblings). but the thing that i'm excited the most is the surprise visit from my cousin diosa and her two little kids, whom i've never met before. diosa lives in germany with my aunt and uncle and i haven't seen her in about 6 or 7 years, so it'll be a nice reunion. plus, i can brush up on my german.
i have also decided that i will be celebrating my 21st birthday again instead of my 22nd. i'm not a fan of the number 22, and being 22 offically means you are old, and i am not old. justin is 22, and he is going on 30. aaron is 22, and he is old. michael is 22, and he is old. and kim's old enough to collect social security. but i refuse to be old. so, if you want to wish me a happy birthday (on june 24), wish me a happy 21st and ask to see my "new" licence.
oh, and anyone who hasn't seen over the hedge yet, go see it. it is adorable.

all american rejects - dirty little secret |
] |
- i just bought an advanced dungeons and dragons 2nd edition boxed trading card set for $22 on ebay! it was a sweet deal, and even though it'll cut me back for a couple of days, it's so worth it.
- this past friday was the first time i had ever been in a drive-thru movie theatre. aaron, kim, justin, and myself went to watch mission impossible 3 and failure to launch, both movies were pretty terrible. after first being uncomfortable (i managed to squeal, "i love you white people, but i'm sorry, i have to see some black people! there is too much honkey in here!"), we managed to loosen up once we started to watch the movies in kim's car. yet, we still couldn't manage to escape honkeys when we went to akikos for kareoke. the highlight was watching this older woman sing that dumb song by annie lennox for the lord of the rings soundtrack.
- i am incredibly mad at mission impossible 3 for killing keri russell during the first 30 minutes. i have been a fan of hers ever since her felicity days, and i even forgave her a little bit after she chopped her hair off during the second season. i guess it's a sin to give CPR in scientology.
- yesterday for that ridiculous holiday known as derby, michael walker and i went to the great escape and i almost finished collecting the comic series x-men x-cutioners song (missing the last one). i also bought the forgotten realms accessory code of the harpers to increase my collection of D&D products.
- everyone should eat at benedicts over at baxter/newberg. very cute cafe, and even has a little robot maid!
- i got a well deserved C in my modern jewish history class. the class was graded very strictly.
- justin and i are thinking about moving again (those damn 2nd floor frat boy rejects throw these loud, obnoxious parties).

stolen from everyone else because i am not creative:
1. List ten things you want to say to people but know you never will. 2. Don't say who they are. 3. Never discuss it again.
1. sometimes you irritate me so much i want strangle you or stop calling you, but i can't help but call you and let you know how much of a good friend you are to me.
2. it's really gonna break my heart to see you go (again). but this time, things between us are 100 times more positive. i love you with all my heart.
3. if i hear that he hits you again, i swear to god "homegirl" and i are gonna beat his ass. i wish you had the courage to leave him. i wish you could hear us beg to you.
4. i wish we are as close as we used to be. i know life takes us in different directions, but just know that i am always here for you.
5. i had the hugest crush on you, but alas, we could have never been together.
6. you are a psycho.
7. sometimes i wish you could open up to me more. you have known me the longer than anyone else has, and despite the distance between us, our relationship is even more distant. i love you, and sometimes i would like to hear it too.
8. i'm sorry for the way things went down between us. i called you some harsh words, and you didn't really deserve it. i know i'm wrong, and i can't be forgiven, but i want you to know that i don't hate you.
9. i've never told you how much of a good friend you are to me. you are a wonderful person and i admire your strength, despite your negative viewpoint of yourself.

. . . a grey's anatomy addict!!!
my spring break has been nothing but watching all of the first season and watching the last two episodes - i didn't even do any homework. and i know i was harsh on meredith in a previous journal entry, but after watching all of the first season, i really like her. and her commentaries (you happy aaron!). but my new hero is dr. isobel "izzie" stevens, played by one of my favorite former child actors, katherine heigl, formerly from great movies such as that night and my father the hero:

raised in a trailer park by her trashy mother who piled up their debt by her $5.99 per minute psychic obsessions, izzie is everything i wanted to be: worked her way up from an unprestigious college, modeled in her underwear to pay her bills and student loans, sleeping with dr. alex karev, but ending up falling for one of her patients.
hmm, if only life can imitate art.

here are 3 shows that i wish would hurry up to dvd:
3. square pegs
i had only seen one episode of the show a very long time ago on nick at night or tv land or something, and i remember really liking it. it was the start of sarah jessica parker's fabulous fashion sense.
2. zoe, duncan, jack, and jane
i LOVED this show - i remember watching it in junior high and my freshman year in high school every sunday night. the jokes weren't top-notch comedy, and selma blair kinda sucks now, but i loved how it was based on 4 high schoolers living in new york city.
1. ally mcbeal
the first 3 seasons of ally mcbeal were so good. ally was fun, neurotic, and skinny, and i identified with her and defended her when everyone gave her shit for her weight. granted, that infamous time magazine cover was a little true and that vonda shephard theme song is crappy and that stupid dancing baby was everywhere, ally mcbeal was funny, touching, and grey's anatomy wouldn't be around if not for that show.

my research project on alfred hitchcock as an (american) cultural icon is a bust because 1) i forgot the fact that he's orginally british (dr. hall doesn't mind) and 2) there are too many things to write about. the 10-15 page paper is due on thursday... maybe i can get an extension, which i will try NOT to explore, due to my unfortunate incidences that occurred in one of my other classes on thursday and friday.
in other news, justin, kelly, and i saw woody allen's new movie, match point yesterday. it was pretty good in terms of subject manner (the contrast between rich and poor, luck and chance, love and attraction) and i liked how allen decided to mix it up a bit by not having it filmed in his usual new york setting, but instead in london. i also liked how it's not his usual cynical comedy, instead it moves from a slow-paced romantic drama into a thriller. the performances were a bit over-acted (especially by the lead character, played by john rhys meyers), but i loved emily mortimer (who's one of my favorite lesser-known actresses), and scarlet johannson did a pretty good job. there's a hint of misogny in allen - the female characters are either sex objects (johannson) or clueless (mortimer), and johannson's character gets "punished" for being attracted to the wrong man, and also being an american struggling actress from a lower-class upbringing and a woman whose sexuality is exploited, though not necessarily her intentions. the dialogue is a little too scripted and the crime and punishment foreshadowing is a little trite, but overall i think it's one of allen's better works.

| a part of the anatomy i can't stand |
[16 Jan 2006|02:09am] |
after watching about 4 or 5 episodes of the hit show, Grey's Anatomy,
i have come to understand why the show is a success: it's funny, often
times touching, and my love for Patrick Dempsey has not changed ever
since the wonderful 80s movie, Can't Buy Me Love. But there is one annoying hurdle in the show i cannot get over:

Dr. Meredith Grey (played by Ellen Pompeo). here are 3 reasons:
1. in a job in which she spends a huge deal in helping others and
saving lives, she is an incredibly self-involved person. and not in the
sexy, Nip/Tuck sorta way.
2. Her mousy narration at the end of each episode does not go well with
the show's direction. it's like getting tackled at the one yard line:
just when you get the feeling of a good ending, her voice knocks you
down.
3. she represents the common misconception (or the anti-feminist
notion) that women feel the need to let men get the better half of
them, in her case, both in and out of work. the fact that Dr. Derek
Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) is married makes not only him look bad, but
her also because she lets him get to her and it's frustrating. wake the
fuck up, girl!!!

+ i got done reading zadie smith's on beauty and i have to say that it was very well written. i started to read bee season by myla goldberg because the movie's coming out, but i never got to reading much of it (same for brokeback mountain, which is a shame because it's only like 70 pages long). i now plan to finish maureen dowd's latest are men necessary? hopefully before christmas break.
+ this may sound really pathetic, but tonight's gilmore girls is going to be excellent. my secret husband, luke danes, has a child!!! i still love him though.

+ three reasons why i love harry potter and the goblet of fire:
1. it's the transitional phase in the series. the kids are growing up and learning about love and relationships and the value of friendship and etcetera etcetera.
2. the action is soooo good. i especially love the triwizard tournament scenes - it was wonderfully shot.
3.

i loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove me some viktor krum!!!
